TEAM SKIM USA PROGRAM
The concept of a Skim USA Team emerged in 2007 and became an official
program of Skim USA at the Annual Board of Directors Meeting in August
of 2008. The Directors of SKIM USA Association wanted a way to further
highlight the Associations top amateur athletes by offering this elite
group the opportunity to take their competitive skimboarding to a higher
level.
Team Skim USA's selection process will begin at the first Team
Trial, The Board Walk Blow Up being held in Indiatlantic, Florida on February
13-14, 2010.
There will be 4 team trials during the 2010 competition season.

Skim USA's 2011 Team will
be named after the East Coast Skimboarding Championships held in Dewey
Beach on August 14-15, 2010.
TEAM SKIM USA PROGRAM SELECTION PROCESS:
The process of selection to Team Skim USA begins in February of each year.
Each Skim USA Director has the opportunity to nominate individuals that
might be a candidate for membership on the team.
TEAM SKIM USA is an elite
group and an athlete has to be at the top of their game both in and out
of the water to make the cut.
Here are the definitions of criteria:
STYLE:
How you are perceived, how you carry yourself, the way you give back to
the sport of skimboarding.
ATTITUDE:
Your beach and water attitude, your
reception to constructive criticism, your attitude when asked to help
out at contests.
PERFORMANCE:
During the season the candidate must never
have missed a heat or mandatory judging rotation.
The accumulative results
of 4 trials are the formula used to give each candidate's Performance
Ratio:
The 4 Team Trial events are:
1. The Board Walk Blow Up February
13-14, 2010
2. Long Beach Island Skim Jam June 26-27, 2010
3. Outer Banks
Skim Jam July 17-18, 2010
1 point advanced (in any age division in which
there are more than two preliminary rounds) Maximum point accumulation
of 6 points, Champion bonus; 2 points.
4. East Coast Skimboarding Championships
(mandatory trial): Same as the 3 Team Trial events except a Champion Bonus
of 3 points.
Once these trial results are in, you have your performance
ratio.
The final team roster shall be comprised of 2 athletes from each
of the following age divisions:
Boys
Jr. Men
Men
Women
A Team captain
and co-captain shall be chosen by majority vote of all team members.
The
Coach of Team USA will be chosen by a majority vote of the Skim USA Directors.
All members of Team Skim USA shall be contracted athletes of Skim USA.
